Plant Spotlight: Astilbe
/If you're looking to brighten a shady garden with long-lasting summer color, astilbes are an excellent choice. Their feathery plumes rise above attractive fern-like foliage in shades of white, pink, lavender, and rich reds, adding texture and elegance to woodland gardens, borders, and damp garden beds.
Astilbes thrive in partial to full shade with consistently moist, well-drained soil, making them a dependable favorite for areas where many flowering plants struggle.
Astilbe x arendsii 'Cappuccino' pairs creamy white flower spikes with deep green foliage for dramatic contrast.
Astilbe chi. 'Youandme Together Forever and Always' produces deep pink plumes with a compact habit that's perfect for containers and smaller gardens.
Astilbe hybrid 'Drum and Bass' features fluffy, rose-pink blooms held high above lush green foliage, creating a bold splash of color.
Astilbe × ros 'Peach Blossom' is a taller variety with peach-y upright flowers reaching aprox. 30” high. While Astilbe sim. 'Hennie Graafland' is a more compact variety, growing 10”-15” inches high.
Plant several varieties together to enjoy weeks of colorful blooms and beautiful foliage throughout the summer.
